This is the dramatic picture of the actress, but the real Yaeko Yamamoto, fought in the Boshin War (at the end of EDO era) to defend Aizu, became a Christian, and with her brother and husband (Joe Nijima) started the first Christian university (Doshisha) in Kyoto, Japan. Her husband was the first Japanese to receive a degree in America, and became the first Japanese protestant pastor. Yae’s story is now on NHK drama. (NHK is a nation wide public TV station in Japan). Today, at bookstores, we can see a lot of books on Yae. Please pray that God will use this opportunity to open up Japanese’ hearts to Jesus.
